Buildra began in 2025 when our founding team recognized a fundamental problem with every AI code tool on the market: they were optimizing for the wrong metric. Generation speed was the headline feature, but speed without correctness created a frustrating loop. The first drafts came fast. Then came the debugging sessions — type errors on every file, missing environment variables, broken import paths, deployment configs that silently failed. The tenth iteration to fix all of that took longer than writing the app by hand would have. We decided to build the opposite. Instead of racing to show output, we built a generation pipeline that pauses after each step to verify its own work. Validation-before-output is the core of that architecture. Every generated app passes through type checking, lint analysis, a full production build, and runtime execution in a sandboxed environment — before any output is shown to the user. If a layer fails, the pipeline does not surface an error to the user. It retries with a corrected prompt, repairs the specific file that failed, and reruns from that layer. The user sees only working code. This approach means generation takes longer per attempt than competitors. We believe that is the correct trade-off. A working app on the first try is faster than a broken app that requires ten debugging sessions.
Buildra is built by a small founding team working remote-first with a home base in Amsterdam. Amir Elgammal (CEO) has spent the last decade shipping developer tools and AI infrastructure. His work spans production ML pipelines, data platform tooling, and developer-facing APIs used by thousands of engineers. The core engineering team brings experience from prior roles at companies building AI platforms, TypeScript tooling ecosystems, and cloud deployment infrastructure. Every engineer on the team has personally experienced the frustration of broken code generation — that shared experience drives our obsession with correctness over speed. We keep the team small deliberately. A small team moves faster, maintains higher code quality per person, and stays closer to the product decisions that matter.
